Those who know...know: Nertz is probably one of mankind's greatest inventions insofar as leisure and gamin goes. I am not sure any of us expected what is essentially competitive solitaire to be as fun as it is. This Royal Rumble card game is an ingenious furthering of the initial game, combing elements of "Sorry" (you can sabotage your competitors in a hilarious way) and Uno. The two decks of cards that come with this are well-designed, fun to play with, and of decent quality. The board itself is a nice touch, and it is small enough to easily bring with you in a bag, as well as setup on a small, round table. I think this board also solves one of the biggest contentions I've found with the original Nertz game: a few players who are in a rush can make the entire table and its scattershot decks a bit too messy for comfort. The "grudge tokens" are a great touch, as is the inclusion of wildcards that permit someone far behind to leverage a bit of a comeback (the original game can get away from you if you get flustered towards the beginning).I think my favorite thing about the "Royal Rumble" version of Nertz is that it grants more opportunities for success to those who may not be as "quick on the draw". Our initial play-throughs—with family on the holidays—granted victory to an only a select few over and over again. With this setup, I think the slower among us (it's me, haha) and the younger ones have a bit more of a shot, especially with strategic targeted attacks. I've yet to play with a full 8 people, but I'd imaging that this gets more fun the larger your party gets.
